Hello Friends,
Hope everyone is having a wonderful 2010 so far. I look forward to some great musical adventures this year, and I will keep you posted on all of them as the year goes on. But the main reason for this entry is to announce the winners of our recent JK lyric contest! And the winners are.....Nicole Miller of Rosetown, Saskatchewan and Vernon Jones of Victoria, BC. Here are their winning submissions:
Vernon Jones' submission:
"If I am ever to record a cover song, it will likely be The Felon.
Let’s start over dear
There’s no shame just a little fear
And this too will pass with time
Give up the ghost, forgive the crime
Let’s start over here
No need to go there
Don’t say the things you’re thinking of
Just say you won’t forsake this love
James enunciates a plea for forgiveness with such earnest passion. So often I too have had such a yearning. Is it ever possible to truly let go? I certainly don’t know. I’ve certainly been a felon in my own way so many times I’ve lost count. And yet my wonderful partner has stayed with me through it all. I know I’m a lot luckier than I deserve to be. Somehow this song captures my gratitude on that score."
Nicole Miller's submission:
"My favourite lyrics come from 'Spirits' and 'White Dress' off the album Small Town Gods and Devils. I bought the Cd's after seeing James live in concert in Saskatoon. 'Sprits' speaks to me about having my own spiritual beliefs, but not putting them above living in the here and now. 'White dress' also speaks to me as I am recently separated from my husband and I believe that "losing love is a blessing in disguise" as he had been cheating on me for at least a year and I can work at moving on with my life."
Congratulations to Nicole and Vernon - your jameskasper.com Prize Packages are on their way! Thanks, everyone, for your support of my music.

Hello Everybody,
First, my apologies for taking 6 weeks to post an update. It's been an intense 6 weeks, but no excuse. JK.com fans are a priority!
I've now been in Saskatoon for almost 3 months. I'll be back on Vancouver Island between December 21st and January 1st, so maybe I'll see you then! Until then, I am pleased to announce a brand new contest. The winners will receive:
1st Prize: A JK.com Prize Pack including: a James Kasper ball cap, a "JamesKasper.com Feel the Music" coffee mug hand-painted by my sister Leigh (who is a talented B.C. photographer & artist), a JK.com t-shirt, my book of journals, poems, and lyrics ("Through the Fence") a limited edition print of two of my acrylic paintings, and a JamesKasper.com post-it notes & pen set.
2nd Prize: a "JamesKasper.com Feel the Music" hand-painted coffee mug, a JK.com t-shirt, my book of journals, poems, and lyrics ("Through the Fence"), and a JamesKasper.com post-it notes & pen set.
3rd Prize: a "JamesKasper.com Feel the Music" hand-painted coffee mug, a JK.com t-shirt, and a JamesKasper.com post-it notes & pen set.
Here's all you have to do:
Write one paragraph (4 or 5 sentences) on what your favourite James Kasper lyrics are and why. THE CATCH IS THIS: The lyrics cannot be from the lyric page on this website. Any other James Kasper song is fair game!
Please email your submission to my manager Kris Kane at kriskanesae@gmail.com Please include your name, e-mail address, and phone number (with area code). DEADLINE: December 20, 2009. Winners will be announced December 30, 2009. I look forward to reading your submissions! Entries from winners & runners-up will be posted on the home page of this site.
Also, I will be performing this coming Friday (Nov.13) for the first time since I arrived in Saskatoon in mid-August...at a flower shop, of all places! Flowers by Fred - they've been hosting live music since June, and it seems to be gaining popularity. It's fun to play intimate, unconventional venues. I'll be sure to play my song "You and Your Roses" to suit the environment.
In radio news, Wingham Ontario's The Bull (www.945thebull.ca) has now played my song "Breezy" 7 consecutive weeks. Thanks so much to Krista James and The Bull for their support. You know what they say, if you can make it in Toronto, you can also make it in Wingham! ha. But seriously, it's been amazing support, and here's hoping other commercial stations will follow suit and start spinning my tunes.
Hope you are all well. Take care.
love & rockets,
kasper.

Hey again people,
I've now been in Saskatoon for a little over a month. Interesting place. A lot of bridges. A lot of churches. A lot of security guards...A few music venues - all of whom refuse to return my phone calls. Well, who am I kidding - a few people know my music on Vancouver Island and a smattering in Southern Ontario (who agrees that 'smattering' is a great word, by the way?), but here, I'm as invisible and inaudible as a tree in the forest when there's no one around to see or hear it... Oh well. I may just stage an outdoor concert atop one of the churches and hire a security guard to sell refreshments.
Thanks to my manager, Kris Kane, commercial radio across Canada has literally been sitting up and taking notice of my music over the past few weeks. Many commercial stations have given positive feedback, and our commercial radio debut for the new album will be this coming Tuesday evening around 11:30pm Toronto time on www.945thebull.ca out of Wingham, Ontario (which means 8:30pm for those of you in BC, 9:30pm for those of you in Alberta and Saskatchewan). Their all-Canadian show is called 100% Beaver. Here's the preview write-up currently on The Bull's website:
"a name that I think we are going to be hearing a lot from here on 100% Beaver. James Kasper. Originally from BC, he's now in Saskatoon (a.k.a Toon-Town) ...He's already an award winning singer-songwriter, and we'll hear a tune coming off his second disc small town gods & devils. You're not going to want to miss it."
Krista James from The Bull is going to give my song "Breezy" its official commercial radio debut (Breezy was also featured a couple months ago on Jeremy Baker's Capital Rock City - morningaftershow.wordpress.com/2009/06/09/crc60/ - a popular podcast out of Victoria.
Hope you can tune in on Tuesday evening! And if you like the song, feel free to email Krista at The Bull and let her know you'd like to hear it again.
Thanks, as always, for your support.
oh - and before I forget - there are a few fun new items up on the "store" page of this website.
Take care.

Hi Everybody,
Well it's been an eventful and productive year, and the fun continues...On the heels of my July 18 CD Release in Victoria (thanks to all who came out, by the way), I joined Vernon Jones on stage for five songs (on harmonica) at his CD release last night in Victoria. I am now in Saskatoon for the next six to eight months, attending broadcasting school, having arrived here earlier today. As for my music, I will be immersing myself in the roots music community here in Toon Town, as well as writing songs for my next album - tentatively called The True Vine, to be released some time in 2011.
I will be updating this website frequently, so check back often. There is lots of music to listen to on the music page (and some here on the home page too).
Cheers!
kasper.
